Why didn't they write the scene where Ange storms in and says "This is my property and you can't use it" or whatever? But that doesn't follow! (and besides, I know enough people interested in the true crime genre to know "wanting justice for victims" and "being into the gory details" almost always coexist in the same person.)Īlso why does so much real estate get taken up by this conflict only for it to get dropped completely? I have no idea if the convention ever even existed, much less if they read the diary there. who have already all been tarred for years! They spend all their time saying the conventioneers are unsavory people, and then conclude that therefore the truth shouldn't be public. The diary contains info exonerating every single person involved except Eva, Kyrie, and Rudolph. They set this whole thing up to be about her trauma, then make the entire last conflict about something totally different!Īlso the game has made clear the family's reputation has already been demolished. because then she can keep "believing in magic" and hoping her family will come home. shhhoouuuulllldn't find out the truth, I think?. So then what the hell does any of this have to do with where Ange is at and what she wants? Her whole deal has been about how she. Whose motivation is this, Ange? I've got to assume Ange, since the whole chapter is very strongly presented as her journey. Hand it over to the police if you really care about justice. It reduces the people involved in the tragedy to a single, worst moment of their life, and not for justice or history but for the entertainment of bystanders who want a good show at the expense of those who are still processing the trauma of losing their family. Quick: Why was it important that they stop the conventioneers from reading Eva's diary? This was the conflict driving the last million hours of the story, so clearly it must be really important and central, and anyone who understands the game totally can explain how it ties in to everything, right? If you want to skim it, there's also the manga of Episode 8, which added many scenes to the story that I think elaborate on a lot of things while improving the narrative significantly. It's about finding strength and meaning after an undeniable tragedy, and though the facts of the events are unmistakably tragic and the story does not fix it all in a puff of magic, it does give the characters a proper send off they deserve in my opinion. ![]() If you want to know whether there is a point to continuing if it's all going to end in tragedy, and don't mind spoilers, then I think the tone is less bleak than the witches imply. I will take a guess that you do not feel rewarded because you are told in red that it will not have a happy ending. And if you care about Umineko beyond the mystery puzzles, then I think you owe it to yourself to see it through. What now?" is, I think, essentially what the story is. If you are invested in the cast emotionally and want to give them a proper send off, then yes, Episode 8 is vital. In essence, it is the story of the survivors, primarily Ange. If your only concerns are the facts, then Episode 8 has nothing for you. ![]() ![]() Episode 8 will basically give no more answers than you already have, at least when it comes to the who, how and why of the culprit.

Connecting to a smart device is done through either WiFi or Bluetooth for automatically sending photos to your phone, and viewing movies (only shot vertically) on bigger screens. The Touch-Panel LCD screen flips up and is easily viewable no matter which side of the camera you’re on, and videos shoot in 4K at 30 frames per second with no crop, or in full HD. A 25-100mm equivalent zoom lens features a max aperture of F2, and is quick to learn even for beginners. ![]() Image quality is outstanding with the 12MP CMOS sensor, and the image stabilization is a huge help when conditions are shaky. The three-inch LCD screen is easy to use, while the mode dials makes it clear which setting you’re currently on. Weather is no problem either, as this functions just fine in rain, snow, fog and temperatures down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. The camera is IPX8 waterproof up to 50 feet, shockproof from drops up to seven feet, and can withstand pressure of up to 220 pounds. This extremely tough TG-6 can take serious wear and tear, both from the elements and from accidents. A RAW file is significantly larger than a JPEG, but all the data and details of your photo, including precise colors and shadows, should be perfectly preserved for you to alter at a later time. A camera that can save and import your photos in RAW format lets you make additional changes later through your favorite image editing application, allowing you to get the final result exactly how you imagined. WiFi can help save you some time, especially if you’re posting pictures onto social media multiple times a day.įile Format: It’s all too easy to overlook this one, because it’s not a fun, hands-on feature you’ll adjust during a shoot like zoom or aperture. Wired connectivity still may be the fastest way, and most cameras still have HDMI and/or USB ports, but going wireless is an option, too. A digital zoom, on the other hand, can get you a tighter shot from a farther distance, but it may be slightly blurry and pixelated.Ĭonnectivity: Whether you’re a professional or like taking photos as a hobby, you’ll eventually need to upload images to your computer or storage device. A camera with optical zoom magnifies the image you’re seeing through the viewfinder, while keeping the quality intact. But having everything built into one unit might mean sacrificing the features you need. For portability’s sake, that’s a good thing. Zoom: Unlike a DSLR, these won’t have detachable lenses that you can swap out. A touchscreen is helpful for things like picking settings and locking down a focal point, while a screen that flips out and around is great for selfies and letting your subject see how they look. But different models mean varying capabilities of what it can do. Screen: At this point, it’s pretty much standard that a camera will have a built-in screen. What Are the Best Portable Digital Cameras? Here are a few things to consider when looking for the right one. They’re packed with features to make photos look professional, and can slide into a pocket or bag without a problem. Phone cameras, on the other hand, occupy a space at the opposite end of the spectrum, as they’re slim and easy to carry everywhere, but can’t offer the same quality more expensive cameras can. A high-end camera can be bulky and heavy, and if you have various lenses and flashes, the weight can quickly add up. Although in Snap Fingers and Whistle de Middel’s blurring of the boundaries between the real and the staged is often opaque, it reveals an interest that is common to her work as a whole: conflating truth and fiction to offer insight into an aspect of the human condition, in this case the hopes and ideals associated with the American Dream.įurther reading Cristina De Middel: SPBH Book Club Vol III, 2013,, accessed September 2014.Įmma Lewis September 2014, updated by Sarah Allen, June 2017ĭoes this text contain inaccurate information or language that you feel we should improve or change? We would like to hear from you.Growing up as a kid I was a huge fan of Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings, King Arthur and really any kinds of stories that revolved around magic. Throughout her career de Middel has taken the distinct form, content, and technique usually associated with either fiction or the document and used them in a careful, often deliberately obtuse, way in order to tell a story while also challenging preconceptions we might hold about the veracity of the photographic image. Snap Fingers and Whistle, of all de Middel’s series to date, bears the most obvious relationship to her previous career as a newspaper photographer. This is emphasised in her use of the sequence, in the style of magazine photo-essays or photo-stories from the mid-century, and also in her decision to take the city streets, and people she encountered on them, as her subject matter. In Snap Fingers and Whistle de Middel’s use of staging is less overt than in her earlier series, such as Polyspam 2009 (Tate P20839– P20846) and The Afronauts 2012 (Tate P82235– P82271), and the relationship to ‘straight’ documentary is more well-defined. (Unpublished artist’s statement for Tate, 2013.) I was looking for that real part in the movies, if any, exploring again the fluid border between fact and fiction through the very respectable street photography … Following the script of West Side Story, this series stands as a reflection on the basis of street photography and its relation to truth, restoring the icons on my ideas built an image of the city that never sleeps. I decided to document New York just according to what I expected from these over-reported streets. ![]() Describing Snap Fingers and Whistle, de Middel has spoken of the relationship between popular culture and reportage in the work: By using formal devices associated with the former – printing the photographs to look like film stills and displaying them as a sequence, for example – de Middel emphasises the cinematic and atmospheric qualities of this work, and evokes the New York of popular imagination. The place that de Middel presents in Snap Fingers and Whistle feels familiar, not only because of any personal experience the viewer might have of New York but because of how the city is experienced through film and music. ![]() The series exists in an edition of five, of which Tate’s copy is number one. A rainbow-coloured vinyl decal can be placed at the top-left of the grid, behind the first image in the sequence, to give the effect of a beginning of a cinema movie. The images are displayed all together installed in a grid, following layouts provided by the artist. In some cases this was orchestrated at the time of shooting, by de Middel asking strangers to recreate a choreographed move from West Side Story in others the intervention took place during post-processing, with de Middel digitally manipulating the image to obvious and surreal ends, removing a skateboard from a skateboarder, for example, so that he appears to float in mid-air. Featuring cars, passers-by and urban signage, the images in Snap Fingers and Whistle possess a fleeting look in the manner of traditional street photography, yet they are, to varying degrees, the result of careful construction or manipulation by the artist. The title is a reference to the finger snapping and whistles which characterised some of the musical numbers in West Side Story, the American musical written in 1961 about the rivalry between two teenage gangs on New York City’s Upper West Side in the 1950s. Snap Fingers and Whistle 2013 is a series of twenty-eight square-format colour photographs of scenes of New York. Then, launch the game through the desktop shortcut.
